Five teachers, twelve days in Egypt, endless experiences. We invite you to the opening and book launch of Welcome to Egypt, my friend
Egypt, as seen through the eyes of faculty members from the Faculty of Mass Media Communication at UCM in Trnava, comes to life in the photo exhibition and book Welcome to Egypt, my friend. They capture the land of the pharaohs, bustling streets, monumental landmarks, and everyday moments they experienced during their Erasmus+ exchange.
The project’s authors—Vladimíra Jurišová, Peter Lančarič, Igor Piatrov, Matej Martovič, and Denis Javořík—spent just under two weeks in Egypt at the end of February and beginning of March 2026. They visited several sites that have shaped the country’s history and present. The main purpose of the trip was to visit Mansoura University, the second-largest university in the country with more than 120,000 students, where they discussed opportunities for academic collaboration and the exchange of experiences.
In addition to their work schedule, however, they also explored Egypt’s cultural heritage—from the bustling streets of Cairo and the pyramids at Giza to Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and a cruise down the Nile.
Egypt Beyond the Vacation Resorts
It was this very journey that inspired the book Welcome to Egypt, my friend, which, through photographs and personal observations, captures Egypt beyond the tourist resorts. It is neither a travel guide nor a professional report from a business trip. The book offers an authentic look at a country full of contrasts, history, and everyday life, as well as the unexpected situations the authors experienced firsthand.
The project also includes a photography exhibition of the same name, which will showcase a selection of photographs taken during the mobility program. It captures Egypt as the artists experienced it—in all its grandeur, overcrowding, beauty, and grime, in everyday life as well as in unexpected encounters.
The title Welcome to Egypt, my friend is both a greeting and a touch of irony. For visitors, it’s an invitation to discover Egypt beyond the resort areas; for the authors, it’s a reminder of everything they experienced over the course of twelve days—from quiet sunsets over the Nile to the bustling streets of Cairo, to moments when Egyptian reality managed to both fascinate and surprise them.

Five authors, five different perspectives
The exhibition and the book are linked not only by a shared journey but also by the artists’ distinct perspectives. Egypt is presented here as a mosaic composed of analog snapshots, documentary perspectives, critical reflections on tourism, and stylized mobile phone photographs. The result is a visual dialogue between various photographic approaches, media, and ways of telling stories about a single country.
The exhibition opening and the book launch for Welcome to Egypt, my friend will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Námestie J. Herdu 2 in Trnava. The exhibiting artists are Vladimíra Jurišová, Peter Lančarič, and Matej Martovič. The exhibition is curated by Denis Javořík and Igor Piatrov. The entire group of mobility program participants contributed to the publication.
The exhibition and the publication of the book were supported by the UCM Department of International Relations. All interested parties—including students, university staff, and the general public—are cordially invited to discover Egypt as the project’s authors experienced it during their journey.
